Lamberts Ubiquinol 100mg Dietary Supplement in Active Form of Coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone) 60caps

The active form of coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone).

Ubiquinol is the reduced (active) form of coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone). The role of coenzyme Q10 (ubiquinone) in cellular health and cellular energy production has been the subject of extensive research in recent decades. In 1978, Britain's Peter Mitchell was awarded the Nobel Prize for his research on the role of Q10 in cellular energy production mechanisms. Coenzyme Q10 (Co Q10) is found in all cells of the body, specifically in the membranes of cytoplasmic organelles (endoplasmic reticulum, ribosomes, Golgi particles, lysosomes, cytoskeleton and mitochondria).

The amount of coenzyme Q10 normally produced in the body decreases with age and with the use of various drugs (such as statins). The largest amount of coenzyme A is found in mitochondria, as it plays a key role in energy production through oxidative phosphorylation. The end result of oxidative phosphorylation is the production of ATP (adenosine triphosphate) which is the energy currency of the cell (used to meet cellular energy needs).

More specifically, ubiquinone is an integral part of the electron transport chain during oxidative phosphorylation. The active form of coenzyme Q10 which results from the uptake of 2 electrons (reduction) is ubiquinol (= reduced form of ubiquinone). Ubiquinol then transports these electrons (electron donation) helping to add a phosphate group to ADP, converting it to ATP. In addition to the important role of ubiquinol in the production of cellular energy, its ability to donate electrons and oxidize to ubiquinone, makes it one of the most important antioxidants in the body.

So which is better as a dietary supplement? Upicinone or ubiquinol?

In recent years in the international literature there are some studies that show faster absorption and bioavailability of ubiquinol, compared to ubiquinone. However, it is too early to say for sure that the increase in age is accompanied by a decrease in the body's ability to convert ubiquinone to ubiquinol.

Always in line with the latest scientific data, Lamberts has added 100mg ubiquinol to its product range, thus providing another alternative to the healthcare professional.
