Solgar 5-HTP (5-hydroxytryptophan) Complex
The amino acid 5-HTP, short for 5-hydroxytryptophan (5-HYDROXY-TRYTOPHANE), is the hydroxylated form of the amino acid tryptophan, which is found in high-protein foods such as meat and dairy products.
5-HTP acts as an intermediate metabolite between the amino acid L-Tryptophan (tryptophan) and the neurotransmitter Serotonin. Tryptophan is converted to 5-HTP, which in turn is converted to serotonin. Serotonin plays an important role in many organic functions such as appetite control, mood stability and sleep.
Solgar 5-HTP is a dietary supplement for adults, essential for the proper functioning of the brain, nervous system and appetite. Solgar 5-HTP contains natural 5-HTP derived from a titrated extract of the African bean Griffonia simplicifolia.
Due to its effects on serotonin levels (helps to effectively increase serotonin levels in the brain), Solgar 5-HTP is considered useful in disorders such as depression, insomnia, fibromyalgia, headaches and in cases of bulimic obesity. Studies have shown that serotonin is responsible for feelings of well-being, calmness, relaxation, confidence and concentration. It has also been found to help increase levels of β-endorphin, an endorphin associated with strong analgesic activity. Contains in addition to 5-HTP, valerian, magnesium and vitamin B6.
