For more than a century, the name NUTRICIA has been synonymous with infant and toddler nutrition.

It all started in 1896, when Professor Backhaus, in Göttingen, Germany, first made milk with a composition inspired by breast milk. This first "baby" milk became available to all families through NUTRICIA.

Starting from that first factory in 1896, NUTRICIA has charted an impressive product development path, and is always one step ahead, still caring for children in every corner of the globe.

The Nutricia Research Center has been dedicated for more than 50 years to the scientific study of early life nutrition for mothers and young children. This research is based on the miracle of human breast milk, which has an impressively complex composition that is constantly evolving as the baby develops to provide optimal nutrition at every stage of new life. The nutrients that are naturally present in a mother's milk support the physical and mental development and affect both in the short and long term the health of her baby.

The Nutricia Research Center invests in research and development of the correlation between specific nutrients and the healthy development of children, from the stage before conception and in all stages of pregnancy and up to the first years of childhood. This has led to one of the most important revolutionary innovations in start-up nutrition:
In 1994, the Nutricia Research Center team was the first to detect long- and short-chain oligosaccharides in breast milk, which have been shown to promote the growth of beneficial intestinal microflora and the development of the immune system.
